There seems to be some confusion over the history of St Mary's Church. One source refers to the tower as medieval, but the nave of the church is believed to date from 1716. The body of the church is built of dressed slate blocks, that overlap like logs at the quoins. The tower has slate quoins and dolerite stonework.
