Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a small Welsh town on the banks of the Menai Strait, Anglesey and its name translates as "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave." There are however two other places that claim the title of the world's longest place-name, one in Thailand and one in New Zealand. It seems to be accepted that Llanfair PG, as it is known, now claims to be the longest town name in Europe. Should you decide to pay a visit I would recommend you skip the railway station ....boring, and take a walk down to the banks of the Menai Strait from where it is but a short walk to the church on the island .....beautiful!
